Fishery Rules

  1. The season is from 1st May to 10th October inclusive.
  2. Rods must be in possession of a current Environment Agency Rod Licence, available from any Post Office.
  3. The catch limit will be two brace (4) of Trout in good condition and at least 12” in length.
  4. Any fish less than 12” to be returned to the water if in good condition.
  5. Diseased Trout of any size must be removed from the water and fishery and will not be counted in the total
  6. Dry Fly only, nymph fishing is not encouraged, all fishing to be upstream.
  7. Dogs must be kept under control
  8. Do not leave any litter, ensure all gates are shut and avoid damage to the ——-agricultural interests of the estate.
  9. The water has a Keeper and Under-Keeper both full time.
  10.  The Owner, The Agent, The Keeper, The Farm Manager or Assigns are NOT liable for any damage or injury by or to any person fishing on the Wherwell Estate, or accompanying any person fishing, caused in any manner whatsoever. All persons taking a rod on to the water are wholly liable for any damage or injury to themselves or third parties caused or received in the course of, or appertaining to, their activities connected with this Fishing.
  11. Anyone found contravening these Rules, fishing in an unfair or unsportsmanlike manner, or taking more than the permitted limit of fish will be ordered from the water and will forfeit his/her Fishing Permit without refund.
  12. If due to drought or for any other reason, being an act of God, the fishing is adversely affected, there can be no refund to Rods.
  13. Tackle, property, or clothing left either in the fishing huts or on the riverbank is the responsibility of the owner thereof.

  15. The Estate cannot be held responsible for damage to vehicles belonging to fishermen or persons accompanying them, however caused.
  16. Catch returns are required for the management of the fishery, please download, complete and return.
